Safety for the use of candles

# Safe Candle Use Guide At Nuvola Momentos, we care about your safety and the safety of your home. All our candles are handmade with 100% natural soy wax, but like any product with an open flame, they require responsible use. ## Before You Light Your Candle **Preparation:** - Place the candle on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface - Make sure it is away from drafts, flammable materials, children and pets - Remove any decorative elements (dried flowers, spices) that are very close to the wick - Trim the wick to 5mm before each use to prevent high flames and smoke **Secure Location:** - Keep at least 10cm of distance between lit candles Never place candles near curtains, books, paper, or any flammable material. - Avoid unstable surfaces or surfaces that could easily tip over. ## During Use **First burning:** - Light your candle for at least 2-3 hours on the first burn - This allows the wax to melt evenly to the edges of the container - Avoid the "tunnel effect" which reduces the lifespan of the candle **Constant supervision:** - NEVER leave a lit candle unattended - Extinguish all candles before leaving the room or going to sleep - Keep candles out of reach of children and pets at all times **Flame control:** - If the flame is too high (more than 3-4cm), turn off the candle, let it cool, trim the wick and relight it. - If the flame flickers repeatedly, there is a draft: change the candle's location - If you see black smoke, extinguish the candle immediately and trim the wick. **Decorated Candles (Spicy Embrace, Winter Coat):** - Natural decorative elements (flowers, spices, dried fruits) are flammable - Ensure that the flame does not reach these elements during combustion. - If any element catches fire, extinguish the candle immediately with a candle snuffer ## Extinguishing the Candle Safely **Correct method:** - Use a candle snuffer or cover the flame with the lid of the container - NEVER blow out the candle: it can spread hot wax and create smoke - Let the wax cool completely before moving the candle **When to turn off:** - When there is less than 1cm of wax left at the bottom of the container - If the flame touches the container or gets too close - After 4 hours of continuous combustion (allow to cool before relighting) ## Care and Maintenance **Wick Cleaning:** - Trim the wick to 5mm before each use - Carefully remove the charred remains from the wick - A well-maintained wick ensures a clean and stable flame **Storage:** - Store the candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight - Keep the lid on when you're not using the candle to preserve the scent - Soy wax candles can soften with heat: store them in a cool place **Reusing the container:** - Once the candle has burned out, clean the container with hot, soapy water. - Reuse it as a flower pot, organizer or candle holder - Our containers are designed to have a second life ## Special Warnings **Do not use if:** - The container is cracked or damaged - The candle has been exposed to extreme temperatures - There are strange objects in the wax **Emergencies:** - If the wax spills, let it cool completely before cleaning up Never use water to extinguish a wax candle: it can cause dangerous splashes. - In case of fire, use an appropriate fire extinguisher or call emergency services (112) ## Information about Our Candles **Safe materials:** - 100% natural soy wax, without petroleum-derived paraffins - Lead-free cotton wicks (or wooden wicks in XL models) - Cosmetic grade essential and aromatic oils - Heat-resistant glass, ceramic, or cement containers **Commitment to quality:** - All our candles are handmade in Barcelona - We comply with European product safety regulations - We perform combustion tests on every production batch ## Frequently Asked Questions **Why does my candle make a tunnel in the center?** It didn't burn enough on the first try. Burn it for 2-3 hours until the wax melts to the edges. **Why is black smoke coming from my candle?** The wick is too long. Turn it off, let it cool, trim it to 5mm, and turn it back on. Can I leave the candle burning all night? NO. Never leave a lit candle unattended or while you sleep. **Can decorative candles be lit?** Yes, but first remove any decorative items very close to the wick and keep a constant eye on it. **What do I do if the wax spills?** Let it cool completely. Then gently scrape it off with a plastic spatula. For textiles, place absorbent paper on top and iron at a low temperature. ## Contact If you have any questions about the safe use of our candles, please do not hesitate to contact us: - Email: [your email] - Instagram: @nuvolamomentos --- **Last updated:** November 2025 Nuvola Momentos reserves the right to update this policy at any time.
